Mimamsa Darshana (मीमांसा दर्शन), Padartha Vigyan, BAMS.

Hello learners, welcome to Sanskrit Gurukul. In this post, we will learn about Mimamsa Darshana and its influence on Ayurveda. In this chapter of Ayurveda Darshan Nirupana of Padartha Vigyan, Bams first-year course, we have covered the following topics:

Mimamsa

Mimamsa Darshan

Mimamsa Darshana is one of the six Astika Indian Darshana. Astika Darshana believes in the authority of the Vedas and tries to organize the meaning of the Vedic teachings. Other Astika Darshana includes Nyaya, Yoga, Samkhya, Vaisheshika, and Uttara Mimamsa.

The word Mimamsa means the method of reasoning which has to be adopted in order to understand the meaning of a word or sentence.

The Mimamsa darshan mainly dealt with the method of reasoning regarding the sacrificial rights which forms the Purva or former portion of Vedas. They say that the Vedas are ‘Apauruseya’ means authorless. According to Mimamsa darshan, the righteousness of the performance of yajnas gradually waved and started other rituals like पंच महा यज्ञ namely ब्रह्म यज्ञ (studying of Vedas), पित्रु यज्ञ( oblation to the ancestor), देव यज्ञ ( consists of oblations to deities through fire), भूत यज्ञ ( offering of food as a बलि in the name of भूत),  मनुष्य यज्ञ (entertaining uninvited guests). The grhastha should consume his food, only after completion of the five yajnas.

It is explained by Maharshi Jaimini. It deals with the karma-kanda of Veda, hence named as Purva Mimamsa. As per Maharshi Jaimini, pramanas are 3. They are Pratyaksha, Anumana, Shabda. But in later commentaries, Pramanas are 5, Upamana and Arthapatti as per Prabhakar and as per Kumarila Bhatta, the Pramanas are 6, the sixth one is Anupalabdhi.
It has not focused much on the process of creation, physics, and meta physics, but describes more about Karma which is more relevant cause for every action of the world.

The Darshana talks more about 3 factors, The Soul, Indriyas, and Body.It tells about 21 Gunas and 3 types of Sharira.
